The YachtTechnical DataEquipmentSpecial
Style and substance in 54 feet… The Hanse 540e combines uncompromising luxury with superb sailing characteristics to create a fast boat which is captivating in its beauty. A sail yacht which is more than just a feast for the eyes – it’s also a delight to sail. One good look at the 540e and you’ll never look at more conventional cruising boats quite the same way again.
The yacht’s design concept is provided by Bremerhaven-based judel / vrolijk & co, whose designer, Rolf Vrolijk, is
internationally renowned as the lead designer for the Spanish Royal Yacht and the America’s Cup winner “Alinghi”. The builders and designers have made every effort to streamline the 540e’s deck layout and to remove any obstacles or visual impediments.
This commitment to design details, each playing a role in providing ease of handling and ideal sailing characteristics, is common only on custom Wally Yachts and other very high-end cruisers.

  • Clean teak decks with plenty of room
  • Self-tacking jib
  • Fully battened main sail
  • Effective one-line reefing system

Both on and below deck there is an atmosphere of luxury. The Hanse 540e provides significantly above average living room and comfort. The interior is spacious, comfortable and bright and its styling has a kind of minimalist Euro feel that makes the most of the hull’s large volume, not by cramming in a lot of heavy furniture but by keeping all of the surfaces and cabinetry simple, quite low and unobtrusive. The effect expands the saloon and cabins so the boat feels very open and airy below decks.

The YachtTechnical DataEquipment
The Ocean Star 51.2 is a yacht that epitomizes many of the best qualities of the Ocean Star range. Ease of handling is ensured as all controls and winches are placed within easy reach of the helmsman, whilst spray protection is provided by a fold away spray hood and a bimini top covering the entire cockpit to protect guests from the sun. The in mast furling is standard, while the teak decks add to its sense of class. Standard equipment includes the roller furling system, the lead fin keel, throttle, fuel tank indicators and switches panel board in the helmsman seat. Furthermore, there are self tailing winches, sparcraft boom-vang with hydraulic piston and goiot aluminum toe rails with 6 fairleads.
The Ocean Star 51.2 is in a class of her own for comfort. Her interior finishings combine functionality and class and are carefully crafted for durability. The charter version offers four cabins/four heads plus a single skipper’s cabin. This layout focuses on providing a greater number of cabins to accommodate more crew and guests. There is plentiful headroom which grants a spacious and luxurious interior with generous stowage throughout. Ample hatches, portholes, and air vents provide a bright, well ventilated interior.

Enjoy the forces of natrure or just sail!

The sailing yacht engine - by Fredrik Thommesen (flickr)Sailing is an amazing experience mainly because you are in “touch” with the forces of nature: sea & wind.
The Sea is everywhere and touchable unlike being in a motor yacht where usually the deck is higher. The wind is the main force that moves this boats and it is always a challenge to squeeze the most out of it (have a look volvo ocean racing ).

This is the main difference between motor boats and sailing boats: sailing boats have two “engines”, the motor and the wind while motor boats have only one. And believe me there is no sea “vehicle” designed so far that gives you such pleasure in movement as a sailing yacht floating with speed coming entirely from the wind! The only sounds that you can hear are the forces of nature…. the wind and the sea!

Sailing ropesAnd the navigation is much more complicated: more than 20 ropes are used to move this yachts!

Of course the participation of the crew is required, if sails are used. The crew has the same goal: to move the boat as fast as possible and get it to the harbor. This creates strong relations among the people that sail together because they are working as a team.
Cruiser sailing boats (there are also racing boats that require at least 6 people to move them!) are not demanding that the crew is actively involved (if they don’t want), usually on small boats a skipper is enough (with some help) to handle the boat.

About Greece and sailing there is not much to say I think: The perfect playground for sailing, countless islands and beaches!

Bavaria Holiday 38 returning from Methana

Nnice sailing day returning from Methana situated on a volcanic (the Methana Volcano) peninsula, attached to the Peloponnese. This video has being filmed by a second boat. The trip started from Kalamaki, Athens, and ended in the harbor of Vathi. Two miles before reaching the harbor you pass by Krasopanagia, a nice chapel built on the cliffs.

Legend has it that a seaman sailing by this area with his boat loaded with barrels of wine, found himself in a storm. Being in grave danger, the seaman prayed to the Virgin Mary promising to build a chapel there using wine. After he was saved, he kept his promise building Krasopanagia, using soil and wine instead of water.

The YachtTechnical DataEquipment
Beneteau Oceanis are inspired by the spirit of the sea and they are designed to make sailing easier, safer and more accessible, all the more for a bluewater yacht like the Oceanis Clipper 473.
With many single-handed round the world winners in their records, Jean-Marie Finot and Pascal Conq (Groupe Finot) are undisputed specialists in yachts capable to swallow up the miles with disconcerting ease and it shows in the hull sections of the 473.

And her beauty matches her performance…

The deck layout is highly functional and the list of standard equipment quite impressive ; it is a “Clipper”… Below deck, space, light and comfort reign supreme.
The Oceanis Clipper 473 will bring your cruising dreams to life… and then carry you away.
The requirements for the Océanis Clipper 473 layout are functionality, design and, overall, to make life easy. With her twin steering stations allowing perfect ease of movement and optimum visibility for the helmsman, the cockpit of the Océanis Clipper 473 is in a class of its own ; it is fitted with a removable varnished mahogany table (Bénéteau patent n° 3857), the base of which becomes a sturdy stainless steel handrail and footrest when the table is stored away in a locker. Another detail worthy of a mention is the slightly curved coaming that provides comfortable sitting.

The Argosaronic gulf

The RegionTripsPhotos
The Argosaronic gulf
The islands of Argosaronic gulf offer an excellent option for short or longer sailing trips around Athens. Their proximity, mild weather conditions and unique beauty has made them widely popular all year long among Greeks and foreigners alike.

The Islands:

Salamis
Salamis, the largest island of the group, is so close to Pireus that is often reffered to as a floating suburb! It is favored for short boat trips form Attica’s coastline to visit one of its many beautiful beaches, such as Kaki Vigla, Peristeria, Kolones, Kanakia and eat fresh fish all year round.
Aegina
AeginaAegina is the second largest island of the area and is famous for its production of very fine quality pistachios. The town of Aegina has an interesting architectural colour as it is full of neoclassical houses and buildings dating to the 19th century, when Aegina became for a short time the capital of the newly formed Greek State. The beaches all around are commendable but be sure to visit Moni, a very small uninhabited island, south of Aegina port. A part of it is covered with forest that ‘touches’ the water which is crystal clear and totally inviting. And if you enjoyed that, then visit Agistri, at a stone’s throw from Aegina, a pine tree covered island, a small paradise for sailors.
Poros
PorosPoros is an island with rich vegetation, separated from Peloponnesus by a 200 metre wide see channel. The main settlement is the town of Poros situated on the strait which has largely preserved and combined the traditional local architectural colour with the neoclassical influences of the 1900s. Due to its location the south side of the island is well protected from the wind most of the time, thus it offers safe anchorage to sailing yachts. You can either spend a couple of days in the spacious marina to explore the island – renting a bicycle is a good way to do that – or choose one of the numerous bays and enjoy the scenery and the inviting clear water. The Russian Bay with the imposing remains of the old Russian naval station and the picturesque Love Bay nearby are ideal choices if not overcrowded.
Hydra
HydraTraveling to the south, the next major island to come across is Hydra. The town which spreads around the main port has retained unspoiled the traditional architecture – a unique combination of insular and mainland elements that characterize the mansions and simpler houses alike. Cars are not allowed in the island and don’t be surprised if you see donkeys around the narrow streets of Hydra. The port is very small and can be very crowded in the summer especially on weekends. However, there are a few protected bays to enjoy swimming and spend the night: Mandraki, which is very close to the port, Mpisti and Agios Nikolaos to the west. Leaving Hydra and sailing towards Spetses be sure to make a stop at Dokos island, swim and enjoy a quiet evening in the beautiful Skintos bay in the north part.
Spetses
SpetsesFinally you have reached lovely Spetses, the last of the Argosaronic island group. If you are lucky you may find a spot in the Old Harbor or Baltiza, which is the only yacht harbor in the island. A trip ashore is worthwhile and the beauty of the island will reward you. There is one quite extended main settlement that covers a large part of north east Spetses. The grand old mansions that are beautifully preserved remind us of the cultural and economic flourish the islanders achieved the previous centuries. Since private cars are not allowed you can either wander around on foot, rent a scooter – even better a bike, and discover the island more thoroughly, or treat yourselves to a horse carriage, a Spetses trademark. There are many beaches and bays around the island where you can anchor, one of them being Zogergia, where you will be surrounded by the pine tree covered coast.

An innovative and luxurious offshore cruising catamaran

A creative design based on a 25 year experience: The Lagoon 560 completes the Lagoon large offshore cruising catamarans range: she fits between the Lagoon 620, flagship of the brand, and the Lagoon 500, the reference in 50’ cruising catamarans. The Lagoon 560 is an offshore cruising catamaran par excellence, and benefits from all the features that make the success of other Lagoon models (infusion moulding, gull wing shaped bridge deck, vertical windows around the saloon, space and light in the cabins…). She is also truly innovative in many aspects: outside, where the designers VPLP and the Lagoon R&D department have managed to improve the Lagoon concept again, and inside, where the Nauta Yachts Magic works beautifully.

The Ionian Sea

The RegionTripsPhotos
The Ionian Sea
The Ionian islands feature some of the most magical and spectacular beaches in Greece and possibly the whole world. You think we exaggerate? Then visit Porto Katsiki and Egremni in Lefkada, Nauagio in Zakynthos, Myrtos beach in Kefalonia. The combination of white sand, crystal blue water and abrupt cliffs is at least breathtaking. And guess what, sailing is the best way to approach these otherwise hard to reach beaches.

The Islands:

Corfu
CorfuCorfu, in the north of the Ionian Archipelago, is one of the most renowned islands of Greece. The Venetian legacy is unmistakable in the old city of Kerkyra and definitely worths the visit. Spending the night in the small marina just under the old Venetian citadel and enjoying the atmosphere is an added bonus! The island offers well organized marinas, Gouvia marina for example, many protected bays with pine-trees that almost touch the water, and many beaches, especially around Palaiokastritza, accessible only by boat.

Paxos and Antipaxos
PaxoiJust below Corfu lays the island duet of Paxos and Antipaxos. Their small size and natural beauty compels you to explore them thoroughly. You should sail around to discover every exotic beach, every hidden cave, to swim in the most turquoise waters of the Ionian Archipelago!
Lefkada
LefkasTraveling to the south, the next stop is Lefkada, originally attached to the mainland by a narrow passage in the north. The stark antithesis between the west and the east coast of the island make the visit all the more interesting: the rugged west coast with the vertical white cliffs where some of the most amazing beaches lay – Kathisma, Porto Katsiki, Egremni, Mylos- as opposed to the green and curvy eastern shoreline. From the famous and cosmopolitan Nydri, a seaside village in the east of Lefkada, through calm waters, one can sail to a number of small but beautiful islands: Meganissi, Kalamos, Kastos.
Meganissi
MeganissiMeganissi is a verdant island with a fjord like coastline, a heaven for sailing yachts, as everyone can enjoy a bay of his own! Don’t miss the caves in the southwest, the largest of which is 30 meters deep. Kalamos and Kastos further to the south, less famous but equally beautiful, also provide an excellent choice to spend the night, swim in the morning and take a stroll in the traditional villages.
Ithaca
Ithaki
Ithaca is a small island east of Kefalonia that has mostly retained its traditional character. Kioni, an old pirate base, is now a listed village with houses that date back to the 16th century, ideal to anchor and enjoy the surroundings. The island offers great beaches, the best of which can be discovered only by boat: Gidaki, Platis Ammos and the small secluded Kouloumi and Kathisma.
Kefalonia
Κefalonia
Kefalonia, the largest island of the Ionian archipelago is mostly mountainous. The villages and settlements were largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1953. One of the few places left standing was Fiskardo, a beautiful fishing village in the north with traditional and venetian buildings that make it very popular among visitors. Very close to Fiskardo lays Foki beach, surrounded by a dream landscape with pines, olive trees and cypresses right by the crystal turquoise waters. Antisamos beach is also a must! It can be found next to Sami, the main port of Kefalonia, and its natural beauty was made famous a few years ago, as many scenes form the movie ‘Captain Corelli’s mandolin’ were shot there.

Last but not least, Myrtos beach in the north west of the island is often considered one of the best in Europe… and if you stay for the evening, its orientation provides an excellent sunset view!

Zakynthos
Zakynthos
The last Ionian island towards the south is Zakynthos, a very popular destination, that features Nauagio, probably the most photographed and recognizable Greek beach. It can only be approached through the sea, but one should be careful since it can get very crowded in the high season, as the large day-cruise boats unload hoards of tourists regularly. However, there are quite a few other beaches that worth the visit, and some of them are hosts to the rare kareta-kareta turtle. Marathonisi, a tiny island in the south, just off Laganas bay, offer a unique experience for the ecologically minded since they can observe the kareta-kareta, and also the unique beach with the fine white sand, the turquoise waters and the green scenery can trick you into thinking that you are in the Caribbean…

Sailing in Greece

Countless islands, amazing crystal clear waters, unforgettable sunsets…what else do we need to enjoy our vacations? Forget the Caribbean, forget Hawaii…Think Greece! A country that seems carved by the sea, with 13.676 km of coastline and more than 3000 islands and islets, provides the sailing aficionados with vast choices of itineraries that almost compels you to visit again…and again.

The Ionian Sea

While sailing through the Aegean and the Ionian seas  one can simply enjoy the bright sun and some of the finest beaches one can swim in. The Greek islands are traditionally divided  in six complexes: the Ionian islands, the Cyclades, the islands of Argosaronicos, the Sporades, the Dodecanese and the North Aegean islands. Each cluster has its own character and cultural background, offering the visitor a unique experience  as each differs from the rest as far as the architecture, the habitat, the beaches, the sea and wind conditions are concerned.

This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:

Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my blog. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.)

…or something like this:

The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickies to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.
